Days of operation of Giant Tió:
On December 6, 7, 8, 14, and 20, from 11:00 AM to 1:30 PM and from 4:30 PM to 7:30 PM, and on December 5, 12, 13, 15, 16, 18, and 19, only in the afternoons from 4:30 PM to 7:30 PM, there will be a giant tió for children under 12, so they can participate in the tradition of "making him poo" gifts. Each child will receive a candy and a leaflet explaining Christmas traditions.
This tió celebrates 32 years of uninterrupted activity since its first appearance in the city of Barcelona, in front of the old Can Jorba building on Avinguda del Portal de l'Àngel, and at our Fira de Santa Llúcia.
This Day of Traditions began in 1993, with the aim of promoting popular Christmas traditions within the framework of a BICENTENNIAL fair that seeks to go beyond the simple creation of the nativity scene or home Christmas decorations. It aims to link culture and commerce in a creative way that was highly innovative for that time, 32 years ago.
At that time, it represented a real change in the way of participating in and understanding Christmas fairs and activities.
This Day of Traditions aims to educate all its visitors by showing, right on the street, our traditions surrounding the Christmas cycle, uniting culture and commerce in a positive and innovative way, just as it did in the beginning.
The tió, the nativity scene, the carassa, puppets, choirs, cava, turrón, stories—everything is a subject for narration, parades, or performances, allowing us to explore our traditional Christmas heritage in depth.
Due to its location and duration, our fair is one of the winter events with the highest participation of locals from Barcelona and Catalonia.
More than 445,000 children have "made the Tió poo" gifts since the activities began, and more than 10,000 spectators have participated in the last 31 editions of the Day of Popular Traditions.
The media gives us extensive coverage; press, radio, and television are permanently at the fair explaining what we do, sell, and/or produce.
“Christmas(es). Christian Celebrations in Barcelona”,
a program of activities by the Barcelona City Council for the Christmas season that aims to highlight the diversity of expressions and practices surrounding the holiday and the different ways of celebrating within the various forms of Christianity and the city's religious and spiritual communities.
Within this framework, on December 17 around 5:00 PM, a scenic and participatory storytelling event will take place at the Fira de Santa Llúcia. It invites the public to discover, through stories and symbols, how different cultures of the world celebrate family, community, and hope at the end of the year.
A journey through various festivals full of meaning and color that reminds us that, beyond cultural differences, shared celebration is a common language.

All persons and entities interested in the world of nativity scenes may participate.
Both open-type nativity scenes (tabletop) and dioramas will be valid.
An open nativity scene is understood to be one made of cork and moss on a base. All kinds of alternative materials are accepted, provided that the presence of the Nativity (Birth of Jesus) is mandatory. Completing it with other figures is welcomed.
A diorama is a nativity scene, preferably the Nativity, inside a box with a frontal opening. Characterizing requirements are that it follows the basic rules of perspective and has adequate lighting.
The materials and techniques used in the creation of the works are left to the discretion of the contestants.
Individual nativity scenes: works submitted by participants individually or as a group are registered in this category, with group works being understood as collective works not included in the “Entities” category.
School nativity scenes:
school students between 6 and 18 years old. The jury will take into account the age segment of the authors for the corresponding assessment.
Nativity scenes created globally, in which different age segments have participated jointly, will also be admitted.
Entity nativity scenes:
This group includes civic centers, parishes, community centers (casals), and other similar collectives.
Single category: Without segmentation by age or collective.
Singular condition: If, due to special construction or concept, it is not appropriate to include the nativity scene in any of the established categories, it will be assessed separately, assigning it a suitable prize if deserving.
Two different deadlines are established: REGISTRATION OF WORKS (26-12-2025) and SUBMISSION OF PHOTOGRAPHS (16-01-2025). Below are the details for each:
Registration of Works
Submission of Photographs
The submission of works for the competition must be, mandatorily, by electronic means, by sending images of the nativity scenes and dioramas to the email address concurspessebresbarcelona@gmail.com
Regarding the photographs: It will be necessary to submit a maximum of five photographs, strictly in horizontal format (landscape), to facilitate viewing.. If more than five images are submitted, the jury will only consider the first five.
It is important that at least one of the photographs shows an overall view of the work
The submission of photographs may be complemented by a single video recording not exceeding one minute in duration. If this duration is exceeded, the jury will take into account exclusively the indicated time limit. It must also be in horizontal format.
The maximum deadline for the submission of images is set for January 16, 2026
It is composed of qualified members of the Association and the President of the Entity, who may delegate his/her duties if he/she deems it appropriate. The Jury is empowered to resolve any matter not regulated in these rules, and its verdict is final and without appeal.
All registered nativity scenes will receive a diploma certifying their participation.
The jury's verdict will be made public on the same day that the prizes are awarded to the chosen works.
The date and place of the announcement of the winners will be communicated in due course, and the event will be conducted in accordance with mobility and social gathering restrictions in force at that time.
A person may be delegated to collect a prize, exclusively for a single awarded nativity scene. Any contestant who does not collect the prize personally or by delegation implicitly waives their right to it.
Participants expressly authorize Associació de Pessebristes de Barcelona to disseminate and publish the images. In this regard, only the nativity scenes themselves may be photographed.
In accordance with the provisions of Regulation (EU) 2016/679 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 27 April 2016 on the protection of natural persons with regard to the processing of personal data and on the free movement of such data, participants are informed that the personal data provided in the participation application are recorded in a file owned by the Association and are processed for the management of participation in the competition.
